Membership of the Committee has been drawn from key Ministry Directorates such as Teacher Education & Specialized Services, Assessment, Curriculum Development, Primary, Planning and Information and partners from UNICEF Zambia , TaRL Africa and VVOB Zambia that are actively involved in the provisioning and support to Catch-Up/TaRL.

The purpose of the orientation was to orient CUCC members on Catch-Up/TaRL initiative in Zambia, highlighting the challenges, progress, lessons learnt and achievements made since Catch-Up/TaRL inception. Catch-Up programme is based on the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodology aimed at improving the literacy and numeracy performance levels in primary schools for learners in Grade 3-5. MoE has implemented CU in 4,454 primary schools and has reached 671, 882 learners in 8 out of 10 provinces in Zambia. CU has proven to enhance and consolidate foundational learning in numeracy and literacy in primary schools.

In this orientation meeting the CUCC members were taken through the assessment procedures and planning in CU and how monitoring and mentoring is done in CU. The meeting brought to the fore the roles and responsibilities of the CUCC in Catch-Up/TaRL and established sub-committees that will spear-head the goal of integrating Catch-Up into the education sysytem in Zambia. The Ministry Directorates undertake the leading role in the Committee as they are the implementors of Catch-Up programme, with the technical support from VVOB Zambia, TaRL Africa and UNICEF Zambia.
